Isidore de Séville connaissait-il les Fables d’Hygin ?

Abstract : After examining the supposed parallels between the works of both authors, this article concludes that Isidore of Seville probably did not know Hyginus’ Fables. Such a conclusion may seem disappointing, but this survey allows for a detailed analysis of various Isidorian passages and even the identification of new sources of the Sevillian (the list is provided at the end of the article). Here are Isidore’s texts which are studied more especially: Chron. 62; Etym. III, 20 [21], 4; IX, 2, 47; XIV, 4, 1; XIV, 5, 1; XIV, 8, 17; XV, 1, 4-5; XV, 1, 7-8; XV, 1, 31; XVIII, 39; XIX, 8, 1; XIX, 19, 9; XX, 1, 1 and XX, 3 [4], 14; and HG 7-8.
