Les modes d'exploitation des pharmacies d'officine : la place des sociétés commerciales dans l'exercice d'une profession libérale réglementée

Abstract : Retail pharmacies have a monopolistic position in the field granted by the Article L 4211-1 of the French Public Health Code. However, this system is particular to France, for in the other European countries, such as Denmark and Netherlands, several over the counter drugs are easily available, without prescriptions and which are not reimbursed by the Social Security Services, and that too in supermarkets. This study portrays the French system in terms of the monopoly of retail drugstores strictly defined by law and the impact of those legal constraints on the chemists and their daily activities.
