Inventaire et hiérarchisation des pelouses sèches à faciès d’embuissonnement du département de l’Ain

Abstract : Calcareous grasslands are semi-natural ecosystems among the most species-rich, dominated by perennial herbaceous. The dropping of traditional extensive pastoralism has led to the decline of these ecosystems, mainly threatened by natural vegetation dynamics with encroachment or by the increasing urbanization. In 2011, The Rhône-Alpes Conservatory of Naturals Areas (CEN RA) started an inventory project of these ecosystems in the Ain department. Inventoried calcareous grasslands, divided by territory, undergo a prioritization based on diverse criteria which are grouped into four setups: “Ecological interests”, “Degradations”, “Feasibility indicators” and “Cultural interests”. The prioritization of calcareous grasslands in each setup allows administrators to select a limited number of grasslands for which a management is possible, legitimate and easy. The prioritization is established to meet the objectives of the CEN RA, i.e. to favor extensive pastoralism as a management practice as far as possible. An effective preservation of these patrimonial ecosystems goes through the conservation of this ancient activity, which is patrimonial too.
