Coopérations Sud-Sud : cinéastes maghrébines à l'oeuvre !

Abstract : This article highlights 60 feature films with Moroccan, Algerian or Tunisian funding directed by women in order to focus more specifically on Maghrebi coproductions, and to describe the patterns of production as well as the ways in which women cooperate in such films. The first objective of the article is to understand the motivation behind such cooperation and the second is to grasp the collective character of filmmaking thereby analyzing the ways in which films by women filmmakers rely on female staff, networks and expertise. This research that seeks to address the collective dimension of filmmaking shows that Maghrebi coproductions are more often the outcome of necessity than political initiative.
