¿Todos los ángeles son rubios? Indicadores para la detección de ruidos interculturales en las noticias de televisión

Abstract : This study examines journalistic coverage from the perspective of intercultural indicators and the codes of ethics of media. To this end, we analyzed the coverage from October 18 to 24, 2013 by European public television channels (BBC, France 2, RAI 1 and TVE 1) of the so-called “blonde angel” case—the appearance of a girl in a Rom camp in Greece, suspected of being a victim of child trafficking or kidnapping. By applying a series of indicators that showed distortions in the representation, it was confirmed that the news deviated from intercultural quality standards and that the international alert based on physical appearance contributed to the stigmatization of the Rom people and the “ethnification” of crime.
