Master thesis

Appropriation, construction et développement de l’univers des jeux vidéo alternatifs : étude des pratiques discursives d’une communauté d’auteurs-joueurs.

Abstract : This master thesis analyses the construction of alternative values through the publication of manifestos during a specific event (Manifesto Jam). We first discuss the concept of independence and its redefinition through what we call the indie label. We show how an “alternative repertoire” is constructed through a space of expression and a particular context. To do so, we analyse the authorisation of game developers through their will to express themselves and their background. Finally, we question the relation to the social in the public space, to the positioning between the global and the local, between the digital and the physical, all through the concept of subcultural capital.
