Information modelling for the assessment of a database quality

Résumé

Data collection for a database requires to design a well-elaborated process which allows the collection of the right and sufficient information. Referring to the information theory, a database can be considered as a process, which input corresponds a system state at a time T0 and which output is obtained at a time T1 (T1 greater or equal to T0) and which meaning correspond to those of the initial information at T0. The required characteristics of a database are its independence in regard to the time, the conservation of the information along the time and a minimum of deviation between the information meanings at the input and the output of the process. Meet these requirements means the database has some quality among which: get sufficiently wealthy and representative information on the activity or process which output is used to feed the database; reduce the ambiguity between the information carrier objects based on the minimisation of information overlapping, simple and clear synthesis of the input information based on a unique decomposition model of the information whatever the feeding process can be. To achieve these qualities, the data collection system will be studied, based on a functional analysis approach.
