A Fuzzy Approach to Allocate Reliability to Systems Components

Abstract

This paper proposes an approach based on fuzzy sets to exploit experts conclusions for reliability allocation to systems components. One of the usual methods used for reliability apportionment, called “feasible technique objectives”, is selected to illustrate the principle of reliability allocation. This model roughly allocates reliability to serial subsystems. Some of the model parameters are estimated based on experts conclusions, as it is the case for the more elaborate models. The approach proposed in this paper uses the fuzzy logic technique to merge experts conclusions and field experience available data. More reliable parameters can thus be provided for the reliability allocation models.
