Du mode d’existence cinématographique de la classe ouvrière

Abstract : In France, the academic success of the “Cultural History” and the diffusion of the Visual Studies have contribued to the effective recognition of the cinema as a legitimate cultural object. But this recognition, in the French intellectual context, has lead to the cultural disqualification of the film consumption of the working class and to the negation of its aesthetic expertise. Thus, by a kind of perversion, what can be considered as a monument of the working class culture has been transformed in a proof of its ignorance, and the cinema reduced to the personal field of expression of artists magnified for their fight against “consumerism”
