« De la symétrie. Performance cinématographique et expérience du genre à l’aune des hommes-objets du cinéma américain »

Abstract : Exploring the history of the cinema from the standpoint of the « actor as a sex toy » – « homme-objet » in French, i.e. the actor’s body as an equal opportunity of erotic pleasure for male and female spectators – is of great interest for Film studies. It goes against the presuppositions that usually guide academic research and limit its validity, due to the priority given to the point of view of a male and purely rational spectator. Practicing a symmetric anthropology (Bruno Latour) of the cinema as a spectacle – in the sense of a situated action – is a means to give back to the ordinary spectator her/his ability to experience and valuate, with the help of her/his emotions, the various senses of a film. A pluralist vision of the value of a film can thus be opposed to the reduction of this film to a discourse or a text, decoded by an objective gaze.
