Elaboration d'un procédé de fabrication de pierres reconstituées à base de liants hydrauliques : application au grès d'Ernzen

Abstract : The present document deals with the development of a new process for the fabrication of large and thick artificial stones. This process requires effordable equipment so that small compagnies can use it. It is applied to Ernzen sandstone witch is frequently used in Luxemburg. This process consists of two principal steps. During the fust step, the mortar is submitted to a depression to expulse air bubbles, and during the second step, the excess of water is drained following-like the vacuum dewatered method. A large part ofthis study deals with the technical aspects. Each step bas to follow specifications to ensure the quality of the product. Rheology measurements ,were carried out to estimate fresh mortar caracteristics.The batching is realised with a formulation model developped by LCPC's French engineers and based on packing density. Deformability measurements revealed that the product develops a shrinkage which can be reduced by the use of adequate admixture or synthetic fibers. After comparison, the used model has been validate in the case of fine hydraulic mixtures. The use of porosity Hg method revealed that the product bas a finer porosity than artificial stones using compression methods. This microporosity hampers the water circulation when it is freezing, and so allow damage caused by salt deicer (NaCl). Clhoride reacts with cement hydrates to form new components (choroaluminate). These damage are non-existent when air entrainement admixture is used.
