Localisation des éléments traces métalliques dans les sols. Application au fonds géochimique naturel

Abstract : A geochemical reference in trace metal elements in soil, i.e. the background level of trace metal elements, is needed for evaluation of contamination state. These element stocks change during soil evolution, due to divers element transfers. ln these study, these transfers were determined following physicochemical soil characteristics. Their identification was established by investigation of « host » compartments isolated by physical methods (grain-size and magnetic fractionation), and examined at decreasing but complementary scales (metre to nanometre). Geochemical evaluations allowed to estimate « host» compartments changes, defined by their size and their nature. Two soil type, representative of the temperate climate, were chosen for these study. An andosol formed on basaltic scoriae, characterised by hydrolysis processes, allowed to evidence neoformation of organomineral compounds highly reactive towards Cu and Zn. These poorly stable components, affected the mobility of Cu and Zn in the soil. At the contrary, the ferric and ferromagnesian minerals (titanomagnetite, olivine, augite), more resistant, have scavenged Cr, Ni and a part of Zn. A typical luvisol formed on loess formations was characterised by clay and Fe migration as weil as Fe-Mn concretions due to varying oxydoreduction conditions in the soil. These characteristics have determined vertical and lateral transfers of the elements. Fe-Mn oxyhydroxides were identified as scavengers of trace metals. In this soil, Fe-Mn oxyhydroxides were particularly linked with clay minerals. Consequently, trace elements associated with Fe-Mn oxyhydroxides were redistributed in the soil with clay minerals sudmitted to pedogenetic processes. Factors of trace elements mobility, identified in these two pedogenetic contexts, were characteristic of the specific soil differentiation.
