Contribution à l'intégration de communications multimédias dans un environnement MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification)

Abstract : This dissertation concerns the integration of multimedia communications into the automated manufacturing systems. The multimedia information is characterized by its various level of QoS (Quality of Service) requirements, especially on the communication systems. The integration of this new type of information into an industrial context must take into account of the communication systems standardized for the automated manufacturing systems. The local area manufacturing networks implement particularly the international standard MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) which virtualize the main manufacturing devices by an abstract model: the VMD (Virtual Manufacturing Device). An approach of the integration is proposed in which two new types of distributed control-command are distinguished: that for the multimedia devices and that for the communication resources. To overcome the insufficiency of the MMS for the multimedia applications, a model named VCS (Virtual Communication Support) is proposed to virtualize the communication resources in order that the applications can control them via MMS. This model is specified by the help of the object oriented method OMT (0bject Modeling Technique). The object model and the dynamic model are elaborated to define respectively the information structure and the behavior of the VCS. The VCS services are also proposed in the thesis. A real-time tele-supervising application, based upon the proposed approach, is realized on an experimental heterogeneous platform (two networks: Ethemet and ATM-LAN, and two types of video capturing devices). The objective of the application is to validate the feasibility of the proposed approach in terms of the homogenous control over the multimedia devices and the network resources in a real application context.
