Etude des relations entre les ressources minérales du sol et la végétation forestière dans les Vosges

Abstract : The aim of this work is to determine the autecology of 157 forest species of the Vosges mountains in relation to minerai nutrition parameters : exchangeable bases, cations of exchangeable acidity, saturation percentage, pH value, organic carbon and nitrogen content and CfN ratio. Nutritional behavior of these herbaceous and arborescent species is studied in relation to sorne environmental factors. Finally, bioindicator quality of species is discussed. For this study, 473 forest sites were sampled. The sampling strategy was based on three criteria: humus form, altitude and geology. Several approaches are used for data analysis. The most important, smoothing methods allow to calculate species frequency for any value of one or two environmental gradients. Frequency variations are visualized as ecological profiles which take into account classes of abundance according to Braun-Blanquet. Ecological optimum and amplitude concepts are revised. The results allow us to establish the complete description (distribution and numerical summaries) of each species in relation to each trophic variables. They also show a toxic effect of aluminium on species which prefer mesotrophic or eutrophie soils. Analysis show the same effect of many nutritional variables on species. These variables have been combined to create a synthetic factor. Species behaviour towards this factor varies with depth of soil, altitude and geographic localization of the site. Ali analyses prove a clear sensitivity of species to trophic factors which justifies the study of their suitability as bioindicators. The comparison of sorne prediction methods demonstrates the quality of logistic regression to estimate the pH value of a site based on its floristic composition.
