Représentation, visualisation et modification de modèles volumiques pour les Géosciences

Abstract : Subsurface volume modeling has may applications in Geosciences. This thesis is concerned with three of the main challenges of volume modeling. First, computer representation of solid models determines how much complex geometries can be accounted for, and how appropriately operations can be carried out. Therefore, an extrusion-based representation for modeling stratigraphie architecture is studied, as well as two more general approaches: - A boundary representation, which appears as a 3D geological map, is made up of continuous spatial regions separated by surfaces.- A cellular representation, or grid, is a collection of polyhedral cells generated from these macro-models for engineering computations. Second,Visualization of volume models has to generate informative images for helping the understanding of the subsurface. New algorithms are presented for efficiently extracting cross-sections and isovalue surfaces or direct volume rendering. Third, general geometrical Modification are defined. Implemented as interactive manipulation techniques, they primary concern is to maintain geologica consistency through the use of constraints.
