Étude d'un procédé d'émulsification : suivi rhéologique in situ dans un rhéo-émulseur et formation de gouttes primaires dans un champ d'écoulement

Abstract : Emulsification process consists on the creation of a great interfacial area between two immiscible liquids. This work deals with the study of the different steps of an emulsification process, from the introduction of one phase into the other one in a semi-batch reactor up to the fine drop let dispersion by means of a high stress device in a batch reactor. The reactor is composed of two main devices: a macromixing impeller and a dispersing tool. The performances of both devices have been characterized: resistivity measurements for determining macromixing time; power consumption calculations and effectively-agitated volume determination by PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) for the dispersing tool. The reactor equipped with these devices is connected to a rheometer (rheo-emulsifyier), allowing to in situ follow-up the viscosity of the medium during the emulsification process. The drop size distribution is followed-up through sampling procedure. Kinetic laws have been established for both the viscosity and the Sauter diameter. Two systems with two different "phase diagrams" were used for studying the influence of dispersing speed and phase concentrations. A correlation between Sauter diameter and specific energy is proposed. The operating parameters for studying the introduction of one phase in the other one in a semibatch reactor are the flow rate of the dispersed phase, the shear rate and the rheological properties of the continuous phase. Correlations for predicting the primary drop volume, are proposed.
