Elaboration et validation de critères ergonomiques pour les interactions Hommes-Environnements Virtuels

Abstract : The lake of usability of Virtual Environments (VEs) is a main obstacle to their using at a huge scale in many professional activities domains. These computerized environments present several specificities (i.e., resort to 3D, to multimodality, etc.) don't take into account by classical usability evaluation methods. It is nevertheless necessary to have methods at one's disposal for being able to appreciate the ergonomic quality of VEs. So, this PhD develops the different stages of working-out and ratification of Ergonomic Criteria (E.C.) adapted to Human Virtual Environments Interactions. A first stage consisted of define E.C. from the development and the classification of usability recommendations dedicates to VE, stemming from the literature domain. Based on 170 recommendations, 20 elementary criteria have been identified, defined, justified and illustrated. This stage is the foundation of E.C. adaptation to VEs. A second stage has enabled to ratify E.C. at the time of assignment task in which 10 usability specialists have assigned properly to main criteria 68% of interaction difficulties which have been presented to their. This stage has also enabled to reveal the E.C. well understand and those that required improvements. A third stage compares by experiment the performances of three situations of 2 VEs usability evaluations: users tests, inspection with E.C. and free inspections. The results of this experiment show that the performance evaluation of E.C. is more significatively important than this of free inspection, these also show that E.C. and users tests enable equivalents evaluations performances. Others methods aspects such as problems types identified, internal consistency and covers between each methods have been compared.
