Etude comparative de modulations numériques d'une sous-porteuse en radiodiffusion à modulation de fréquence

Abstract : This dissertation examines the possibility of introducing a digital modulation on a second sub-carrier in VHF/FM broadcast services. After a presentation of the criteria governing the choice of such modulations, and the constraints imposed by other emissions, AM-PSK, OQPSK and Q2PSK modulation are described. Computer simulations permit the comparaison of these modulations in the presence of the disturbances occuring in the broadcast transmission environment (noise, echoes, etc.), both with and without an accompanying RDS signal, and the effect of synchronization errors between the broadcast subcarrier and that regenerated in the synchronous demodulator. The results, in terms of the carrier-to-noise ratio needed to achieve a given bit-error ratio, suggest that, depending on the service quality requirements (acceptable bit-error ratios), bi-rates of 19 kbits/s or more may successfully be broadcast
