Abstract : Gas-liquid absorption with chemical reaction is a unit operation used in the chemical and parachemical industries. The technical calculation, design, experimental simulation and extrapolation of gas-liquid contactors are still a real challenge. The contactor studied here consists of a pilot column with packing (diameter 0.3 m; height 6m; Raschig glass rings of 20 mm nominal diameter) operating against a gas and liquid flow in a countercurrent column. The macroscopic hydrodynamics of the flows was characterized by the respective variations of pressure drop and liquid retention. The mass transfer (interfacial area and liquid and partial transfer conductances and gases) from the packing column was determined by absorption methods with and without chemical reactivation for different respective phase flow rates. Three experimental laboratory models (cylindrical and conical falling films; agitated reactor with flat interface) were constructed and tested to determine the reaction kinetics used and characterize their physico-chemical properties. Finally, the laboratory stirred reactor was used as an experimental simulation model of the functioning of the packing column by establishing in an original way the respective correspondence diagrams of the couples of the partial conductances of the material transfer. The experimental simulation was successfully carried out during the implementation of a gas-liquid absorption with chemical reaction with resistance to material transfer in both liquid and gaseous phases.
