Recherches sur l'ordre des éléments de la phrase en moyen français

Abstract : From a pool of nine texts of the fifteenth century (narrative and historical texts), one establishes three chronological stages. The change of basic word order from theme-verb to subject-verb-object is studied in independant clauses and subordinate clauses. For this study, we adopt the methodological framework of the functional sentence perspective, which correlates the syntactic level with the thematic level. It is possible to analyse the development of verbobject order taking into account three principal types of subordinate clauses : relative clauses, adverbial clauses, conjonctive clauses.
