J.C. Gottsched et l'esthétique théâtrale française.

Abstract : The period to be studied extends over the first decades of the eighteenth century. The specific German situation, marked by the perception of an inferiority in Europe, is the origin of the reception of French dramatic theories. The model advocated by Gottsched, who is the focus of the study, is France, the guardian of the antique legacy, a successful example of a national culture. The method employed consists in a reading of texts in French and german theory with the consideration of major themes: the justification of theatre in German society, the option of a normative dramatic art, the secularization of aesthetics...The study attempts to reveal the coherence of the French contributions that Gottsched integrates into the edification of his national programme.
