Contribution à l'étude du procédé d'oxydation par plasma électrolytique pour la protection de surface d'alliages métalliques légers

Abstract : The research works that will be presented during the HDR defense are part of a wider context concerning the plasma electrolytic oxidation process (PEO) (also named as micro-arcs oxidation process, MAO). The PEO process is an electrochemical anodic surface treatment of lightweight metallic alloys based on the ignition of electrical micro-discharges (micro-plasmas) over the processed surface. These are mainly experimental works dedicated to better understand the physico-chemical mechanisms governing the growth of a protective oxide layer under a discharge regime in liquid medium. Originality of the experimental approach lies in the combination of the process management (mainly the electrical parameters), the in situ optical diagnostic of the micro-discharges (using fast video recordings and spectroscopic techniques) and the ex situ characterization of the elaborated oxides at different scales (using electron microscopy techniques). This specific experimental approach will be illustrated through the presentation of two studies carried out during the supervision of two PhD students (A. Nominé and V. Ntomprougkidis). Finally, some occasional works have raised new opportunities for the PEO process. These will be presented in the form of a research project for future years. Specifically, it consists in the possibility of elaborating conductive oxide layer by incorporating carbon-based particles during the PEO process.
