Représentations de la marginalité dans Extranjeros en la noche d'Antonio Soler

Abstract : The five stories that make up Extranjeros en la noche, a book by Antonio Soler, feature several types of dropouts – men and women relegated to the outskirts of cities and to the fringes of society because of their physical appearance, the work they do or social rejection. They are all confronted with the unbearable shock of abominable and barbaric murders, each of which is narrated by a more or less distant witness. In each case, the narrator keeps his distance from the facts he reports, which is the only way he can survive man’s innate violence. By distancing his protagonists and narrators, Antonio Soler induces the reader to reflect on the meaning of life and on the human condition.
