Quels supports et quels types d’écrits en lecture-écriture au cours préparatoire ?

Abstract : The present study examines how reading is taught in first grade in France. Observations made in 131 classes in 2013-2014 were combined to determine the types of teaching material (textbooks, picture books, interactive whiteboards, worksheets, notebooks, etc.) and texts (narrative texts, expository texts, letters, recipes, lists of sentences or words, etc.) used in first grade classrooms. We examined the different reading activities conducted with each type of material and each type of text, and the extent to which teachers’ choices vary according to time in the school year or the school socioeconomic environment. Our findings underline the predominance of worksheets and narrative texts, and the limited influence of the socioeconomic environment on teachers’ choices of teaching materials and types of texts.
