Quand disparut le monastère féminin du Der ? L'éphémère communauté monastique champenoise de Puellemontier (dernier quart du VIIe siècle)

Abstract : The foundation of the abbey of Montier-en-Der at the end of the eighth century was accompanied by that of a female counterpart, the memory of which is preserved by the name of the village inwhich itwas located, Puellemontier. The disappearance of this community occurred before the mid-eleventh century, but has never been accurately dated. Some sources suggested that the convent was restored by Abbot Adson of Der, who died in 992. In his research on the scrolls of the dead, Jean Dufour corrected a documentary interpretation of Mabillon’s that has been previously accepted, but in doing so he also eliminated the only plausible indication of the existence of a female monastery around the year 1000. Research on Der’s sources make it probable that Puellemontier only survived for a few years after the death of its founder.
