S'imaginer en cinéma. Les hésitations genrées des cinéastes amateurs en Tunisie

Abstract : After a brief introductory history of the organisation, values and political engagement of amateur filmmaking in Tunisia, this article examines the place and trajectories of women in Tunisia's Federation of Amateur Filmmakers (FCTA). Based on a two-year project of fieldwork in Tunisia, we analyse the gendered dimension of interactions on the film set as well as the relationship of women to amateur cinema and its productions. Despite the shared values of filmmakers in the FTCA, this study brings to light the asymmetry of the gender relationship, rendering the situation of women filmmakers more precarious than their male counterparts. We argue that the hegemonic militant posture of the FTCA that federates the efforts of the filmmakers as a group makes it difficult for womenfilmmakers to feel legitimate in promoting issues that are relevant from the women's standpoint.
