Les mains au service de la pensée et de l’oralité : une nouvelle perspective dans la rééducation des troubles de l’oralité alimentaire : présentation de l’évolution d’un enfant de 3 ans et 1 mois

Abstract : Orality disorders can have differents origins but are still suffering source for the child and his entourage. The mouth, center of this disorder is not used like a tests space allowing to the child to discover his environment. Thenceforth, because of the close link between the mouth and the hands in the sensori-motor development of the child, and in his world discover, we think it could be interesting to study efficiency of a remedial approach based on feed exploration by the hands. The child’s cognitive developmental processes would be the basis of the rehabilitation of orality disorders. This speech and language therapy approach is based on the PREL methodology (Premiers Raisonnements et Emergence du langage), developped by the research group Cogi’Act. We also have made the assumption that this work by the hands and the “ajustement protologique et langagier” of the speech therapist could decrease the selective eating disorder and develop the chewing and orofacial praxis. The study has been driving on a single case, a little girl of 3 years old. We analysed and compared data from initial and final results, thereby we were be able to put in perspective the results of oral aspects and cognitive development. Those findings were complemented by clinical observations data collected during meals and during the sixteen rehabilitation sessions. The results of this study seems to be promising, with a positive evolution of the selective eating disorder and a significant chewing increase. By offering a “ajustement protologique et langagier”, the speech therapist allows the child to access to a space where the action on the feed-object leads to the construction of invariants and to the apprehension of a beginning causal relationship. Understand that he is «responsible» in his hands, could allow the child to become « responsible» in her mouth.
