Extractibles nodaux des essences forestières tempérées

Abstract : Knots are the main particularity of wood. They are renowned for their high extractives contents such as lignans and flavonoids, of great economic interest. Their concentrations can be up to 500 times higher in the knowood than in the stems, both in conifers than in hardwoods. The generalisation observation has been tested for a wider range of species belonging to the North-East France resource (Kebbi-Benkeder and al. 2013). In this context, the objectives of this study, are to complete analysis of extractives biodiversity in knots, heartwood and sapwood among eleven other trees selected species, to quantify the extractives and present compounds rates after logging making it possible to forward hypotheses on these extractives(roles, profile intra-tree levels, intra-tree and interspecific differences ...). Extractions were performed using a soxhlet assembly using four increasing polarity solvents (dichloromethane, acetone, toluene / ethanol, water). A GC-MS coupling was used for identification and quantification of the relative extractable molecules. The results, generally show high levels of nodal extracts. The major identified compounds are lignans (mainly in softwood), flavonoids (mainly in hardwoods) and stilbens. Furthermore, our results show high variability in terms of the nature and amount of extractives both interspecific scale at the level of the same tree. Added to their anatomical feature, the chemical composition of knots makes another wood’s feature, this composition depends on species and on part of the analyzed tree as well.
