Pour une psychologie sociale de la vocation minoritaire

Abstract : The aim of this proposal is to describe the practices and social representations of anomic minorities through a comparative and structural approach. The term “anomic” here refers to a situation of relative inability to assume discursive, social, and cultural engagement as an active minority. Strongly dominated, excluded, and defined by reference to stigmatising and majority evaluations of their cultural and urban spaces. The thesis of the project: every anomic minority is structurally faced with fundamental choices which are expressed in the form of questions about its conversion, i.e. about the means and criteria for the transition (or not) to active minority status. This explains why we propose to compare minorities that seek social recognition in different ways: some seek professional or artistic activity, others seek civil rights, others seek access to social rights, still others seek access to work (long-term unemployed, economic migrants, the poor or the active homeless). It is the type of socialised stigma and behaviour (or vocation, in the Weberian sense, “der Beruf” in German), i.e. the cognitive and emotional elements chosen in the representation of self for public recognition action that will enable a minority to be classified as artistic, identity or socio-economic. Every minority is fundamentally an entity in representation
