Infrastructures de transport et dynamique de l’activité de transit au Togo : cas du port autonome de Lomé et du corridor de transport routier

Abstract : This paper investigates the impact of transport infrastructure on commercial exchange, with a specific focus on transit activity between Togo and his commercial partners of ECOWAS. A panel data-setup with random effects - which derives from the gravity model – is used as the analytic tools to determine the impact of representative variables on the quality of transport infrastructure and even the impact of some others explicative variables. The analysis shows that the quality of Togo transport infrastructure such as port and road do not impact the country’s transit activity. However, three principal factors determine Togo transit traffic. They are: (i) GDP per capita, (ii) the coverage rate and (iii) the geographical position of Togo’s partners.
