Transferts de chaleur couplés rayonnement - conduction - convection : Application à des rideaux d'eau soumis à une intense source radiative

Abstract : This study is devoted to the simulation of combined radiative, conductive and convective transfer in a participating, non grey, absorbing and scattering gas-droplet flow. The application of this work is related to water curtains used as radiative shields. In order to optimize these devices, a detailed study of radiation - matter interactions is done. The aim is to contribute to the understanding of the interaction phenomena and to build a reliable predictive tool simulating the behaviour of water sprays used for fire protection. An Eulerian-Lagrangian approach is used to describe the coupled mass, momentum and energy transfer. A Monte Carlo technique (named MCM 2.2) is used to simulate the radiation propagation combined with the Mie theory and a Ck model to obtain the radiative properties of the medium. This MCM version allows taking into account the heterogeneous radiative properties of the medium. The method is tested and validated through comparisons with existing techniques reported in the literature. The problems due to acute anisotropic scattering simulation are considered in the present 3D configuration. Validation of the numerical code is achieved by comparing our results with available experimental data. Several solutions are tested in order to improve the attenuation capability of water curtains (series of nozzles, double series of nozzles, water flow rate modulation, ...) and suggestions are given for further optimization of devices used for radiation shielding.
