Le développement phytoplanctonique dans la Moselle en aval de Metz et dans la Seille : mesure de la production primaire

Abstract : During this study, we mesure phytoplanktonic developpement in two frensch rivers : the Moselle and one of his tributary : the Seille river. We present three years measurements of physico-chimical water quality, biomass, phytoplanktonic populations and productions. The study's object is modelizing of phytoplanktonic populations and productions. The during the three years of measurements, rivers contain high nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations. Silicium have varying concentrations witch could limiting Diatoms proliferations during sommer lowest water levels in Seille river. Wter transparency is one of the most important parameter of this two rivers : the euphotic zone is, in Moselle river, limited at two meters depth, when river is four meters depth. In Seille river, euphoric zone and the water colum are one meter depth. So, we have measured very important phytoplanktonic biomass in Seille river of 140 [mu]g/l chlorophyll A. In Moselle river, biomass are less than 60[mu]g/l. Seille is one of the more "eutrophicate" european rivers. Phytoplanktonic populations are dominated by centric Diatoms witch are responsable of "bloom" during spring and sommer. The other phytoplankton species that have important developpement are green algal species. Primary production were measured by oxygen and carbon methods. We demonstrate that one very high linear relation exist between chlorophyll biomass and hourly maximal primary production. So we used this relation and Vollenweider equation to compute day's productions. Duringthis work, we have estimated phytoplankton production, but we must continued this work by studying zooplanktonic predation on phytoplankton populations during lowest water levels
