Les enjeux de l’électrification en milieu rural de la Côte d’Ivoire

Abstract : This research work addresses a subject of great acuteness, the question of electrification in rural areas in Côte d'Ivoire. In a country, and a continent, where a significant part of the population does not yet benefit from "the electricity fairy", it is of course a major development issue. A challenge that undeniably has a geographical dimension, given the existing socio-spatial disparities, particularly between rural and urban areas. Disparities that also have a different impact on men and women, hence the gender issue that is increasingly taken into account by research and international organizations. This need for electrification therefore implies a better distribution of electricity coverage, as well as an increase in production to satisfy a growing population. Moreover, this need for electrification is expressed in a period where we are more demanding in terms of mobilized energy, by granting an increased share to renewable energies compared to fossil energies called to a significant reduction. This new context brings new opportunities, with the deployment of new decentralized systems, for example, but also new constraints: finding new sources of investment, meeting the commitments made at COP 21 to limit greenhouse gas emissions. More broadly, the aim of this work was to see what these commitments imply in a country where a large part of the population has little access to modern energies and particularly to electricity, even if the combination of these different challenges raises multiple issues.
